— Kentucky’s largest county, Lexington, ranks in the top 50 counties by population and is one of only four counties in the United States with a population of more than 500,000 people.
But that population is shrinking, with fewer than 700,000 residents in 2021.
The last census data showed Lexington was down to just under 1.8 million people.
It is the sixth-largest county in the country.
Kentucky’s top cities, Louisville, Louisville-Jefferson County, Lexington and Louisville-Wyoming, are the other big counties.
